Our Story

Owner and Master Carpenter Jon began his career in building in 1998. Throughout his Red Seal training Jon received several awards in both regional and provincial carpentry competitions. He was quickly recognized as top in his class at BCIT. Following in his father’s footsteps Jon was groomed as a Junior Site Superintendent with Dominion Construction Co. Over the 5 years with the company Jon worked on projects like GM Place, The Millennium Skytrain Line and the Shaw Tower. Over time Jon’s passion for home building drove him away from the commercial sector, he took his expertise in architectural concrete work to Vancouver’s North Shore working for various high end builders on many luxury homes. Finally after 10 years of honing his craft, in 2007 Rain City Homes Ltd. was officially formed. Over a decade later and with hundreds of projects under their belts, the same team still led on site by Jon himself, has expertise, quality and most importantly integrity unmatched in the industry.

Laneway Homes

Working exclusively in the city of Vancouver, Rain City has an intimate knowledge of the unique design challenges that come with laneway homes. In 2019 Rain City’s “Luxury Laneway” project was voted “Best New Small Scale Home” at the Ovation Awards.

Major restorations

With an in-house, Red Seal certified crew of carpenters, Rain City’s team can self perform all aspects of any build from foundation to finishing. This is especially important in character retention projects as they can bring elements of uncertainty that new construction does not.

“Jon and his team at Rain City are consummate professionals. Jon is an expert craftsman and his attention to detail permeates his craft and crew. We were thrilled to have his input and direction during the year long project. Now that we live in the house, we see Rain City's influence everywhere - they didn't just take the plans and build to them; they optimized as they built - whether it was the roof trusses that you can't see or the stunning central glass-enclosed staircase or the concrete landscape work that makes the house pop. Jon and Rain City were always suggesting different, interesting and thought provoking ways to address design elements. Our family has a wonderful, comfortable, beautiful space to live for the next 30 years thanks in most part to Jon and Rain City.”
